    我们摄影是为了……

    江湖色有一句口头禅,叫作“我们摄影是为了相聚”。这或许让他们看上去不够专业,但其中也传达了另外一些重要的含义。首先是他们的摄影心态非常轻松。尽管他们也像摄影家那样起早贪黑、在大地上奔走,但他们并不太在意是否拥有摄影的专业头衔。此外,他们彼此有一种身份认同感。他们是中国最早接触网络的摄影人,他们比前辈们拥有更广阔的视野、更自由的观念、更灵活的摄影技法,他们因此显得更前卫。他们不仅完全革新了摄影的交流方式,也改变了摄影爱好者登堂入室的传统路径。这种对父辈旗帜的放弃,对意识形态幽灵的不以为然,是江湖色、也是整个网络摄影领域最为进步的意义所在。

    就像网络写作解放了文学一样,网络摄影也解放了影像。从此次展出的作品中,明眼人虽然可以觉察到大师的影响挥之不去,但更能体会到不羁的个性所在。这些人的作品及风格几乎是不可被替代的。站在作品面前,他们的名字就会在耳边回响。他们敢于瓦解黄金般的构图,却依然能够贡献出完美的影像。他们以闪光灯粉碎光线的教条,却带给人们全新的视觉体验。他们不再以膜拜的姿态接近人民,但人民反而以更率真、更朴拙、更粗野的方式活在了影像里。相机在他们的手里不再是训谕的工具,也不再是接近权力的通行证。摄影是存在的一种方式,是自我证明,是朝向觉悟的荒凉小径,也是通往澄明的肃然自省。但惟独,摄影不是为了“反映”现实。这就是江湖色的美学意义所在。

    这些作品在江湖色数万张贴图中确实有着代表性,但这并不意味着,它们已经完成了对江湖色的整体诠释。绝非如此。在诸多中文摄影论坛中,江湖色最具个性的是,它永远都在探索摄影的“无限可操性”(JURA语)。江湖色贡献了“20mm万岁”的极致观念,试验了“小机摄影”在大片生产方面的可能性,探索了大拇指摁快门的盲拍姿势,甚至一度掀起了“无相机摄影”的歪风邪气。所有这些努力,其目的都是要证明摄影到底能够在叛离的道路上走多远,这让我们想起了先锋戏剧、波普绘画早已做过的诸多尝试。在这种近似狂热的探索中,摄影的本体变得日趋丰盈。

    江湖始终是波诡云谲的所在,江湖色也总在上演各种凡俗的人间故事。或许不断有人从江湖色淡出,却没有人能从那里决然走开,这恰好证明了摄影和相聚的双重魅力。

    We Are Photographing For ……

    In Jiang-Hu-Se, there is a famous saying, that is, ‘we are taking pictures because we wanna be happy together’. Such saying may make photographers in the Jiang-Hu-Se sound less professional, but, it has conveyed some other important connotation. First of all, these people at the Jiang-Hu-Se are rather relaxed so far as photography is concerned. Despite of the fact that they just work as hard as any professional photographers, none of them cares about joining any associations of photographers or winning certain Grand Prix of Photo Contests. Among themselves, they have a strong sense of identity. They are earliest group of photographers who stepped into cyberspace, and they intrinsically have much broader vision, freer concept and more flexible photographic techniques, all of which only makes them more pioneering. Not only have they innovated the way of communication by photography, but also have they changed the traditional way of climbing the
    photographers’ ladder. Such abandonment of banners long held by the predecessors, such disregarding the photographic doctrine are forming the most significant part of the Jiang-Hu-Se and also the entire online photography.

    Just like cyberspace having liberated literature, cyber photography has liberated image. From the photos shown at this Exhibition, audience may notice the trace of influence by classic photographic masters in these works, but at the same time, one may observe the unbridled individual creativity. These works and their style are simply irreplaceable. Standing in front of these works, you can hear their names ringing into your ears. They dare to overthrow the law of Golden Composition, and still produce awesomely perfect pictures. They dare to use flash bulb to smash the doctrine of lighting, but still they give people refreshingly new visual sensation. They dare to face up people without posing as a worshiper; still they portrayed people in their own frank, natural and crude way. Cameras in their hands are no longer a tool of teaching or preaching, neither are they passport for chasing power. Photography is a way of life, a way of self proof, a
    lone path leading to self enlightenment, and finally a path to serious reflection. But what photography is NOT is that it is not an optical reflection of reality. This is the very aesthetic meaning of the Jiang-Hu-Se.

    These photographic works are truly representative of those tens of thousands of photos posted in the Jiang-Hu-Se, but this does not mean that they are the exclusive or authoritative interpretation of the spirit of the Jiang-Hu-Se. Among various Chinese photo forums, the Jiang-Hu-Se is most unique in terms of its endless search for ‘the unlimited operability’ of photography (words by Jura). It is the Jiang-Hu-Se that has incubated bold concept of up-close snap shot, namely ‘long live 20mm’ (focal length), it is the Jiang-Hu-Se that has experimented with possibility of ‘making great Photos with a point-n-shoot camera’, it is the Jiang-Hu-Se that has explored the ‘blind’ way to press shutter release with a thumb, it is also the Jiang-Hu-Se that has fashioned a bohemian style of ‘photography without camera’. All these efforts serve to testify how far photography can go in the direction of defying itself. This simply reminds us of
    those numerous pioneering attempts in the van-guard theater and pop arts. Amid such seemingly maniac exploration, the embedded essence of photography is increasingly gaining its radiating glamour.

    Just like troubled water, the Jiang-Hu-Se always staging non-stop episodes of common-men stories. Perhaps, there are people constantly checking out of the Jiang-Hu-Se, but actually they can never leave. This sheer fact accurately demonstrated the dual attraction of photography and being happy together.
