Thank you for your comments, they're very much appreciated.  One thing I recommend about still lifes, is that unlike when you shoot a portrait of real life person, you can take your time, leave and come back to a still life later,  to problem solve any issues arising from your concept of a photo.  
 
You don't need a full fledged studio to shoot still lifes either, just a table or stool placed anywhere, or, you can go outside to shoot Butterflies or flowers et al.   Shooting still lifes is always good training for instilling mental discipline and the ability to focus your mind.  
 
I enjoy very much some of the very good still lifes I see here on Paowang.
