“......整个乐曲声部重合在一起的低沉而缓慢的自然音序持续到最后。女高音随着乐队的牵引扶持唱出的歌声同样哀惋凄恻。听完之后压抑的心久久不能得到舒缓。这正是戈莱斯基所要传达的民族和人类沉重的苦难经历。形式上，三个慢板的排列，女高音自然的穿插，并以其为中心的对称组合都独具匠心。内容上的安排也具有对称性：第一乐章和第三乐章都是母亲失去儿子的哭诉，而少女安慰母亲，乞求神明的保佑作为第二乐章放在首尾两个乐章的中间，成为整个乐曲中最为哀恸的中心。对应首尾乐章母亲的哭泣，它就像是一个回应，跨越了历史的天空......”
