我非常喜欢这个歌，部分是因为电影里面士兵在炮火中冲杀死伤的时候，背景却响着这首轻柔的旋律，那种震撼情感似乎难以用语言来传达。以至于总是固执地把《拯救大兵瑞恩》中最后小镇保卫战前留声机放出的那首德文歌记作是《莉莉·玛莲》(其实本来的意思就差不多)。
想想这首歌曲居然是二战中德军最爱的歌，不由得对这些敌人产生了更多的敬意。

　　这首歌歌词源自１９１５年汉斯·莱浦（Hans Leip、１８９３年９月２２日～１９８３年６月６日）的一首德语诗作，１９３８年诺博特·舒尔兹（Norbert Schultze）为其作曲。在二战中她很快风靡德军，甚至在美军中也流行起她的英语版本来。美国大兵们甚至都拜倒在英语版演唱者，玛琳·迪特里希——一个坚决的反纳粹德裔美国演员——的石榴裙下。
